DD 211-215.999 (Tony) God: The Evidence by Patrick Glynn (212.1GLY)

The Reconciliation of Faith and Reason in a Postsecular World
God: The Evidence is another example of how the facts stated are much more interesting than the argument. It may have something to do with the author's doctorate and the immense affluence that comes with such a honor. Remember 'Cheers'? On the show was a character named Dr. Fraiser Crane. He was great and very approachable when he was personable with Norm and Cliff, but once he tried to preach about some theory of some Doctor or philosopher, all the barflys eyes just glazed over.
I felt the same way with this book.
One of the problems might be that while Patrick Glynn is arguing for the existence of God- he doesn't quite say which God he's trying to prove lives? Sadly, when I read this, I thought it would be a Christian book. But, while many of his facts and evidence quote the Torah and New Testament, alot of Glynn's principals in faith are very NEW AGE or Buddist/Hindu.
I chose the book because our Pastor had mentioned about a book in our book store that was about an Athiest who comes to become and Christian and wrote a book proving that their is a God. When I was at the library, I found this book and thought that this is the book he was reccomending. But God: The Evidence is not a Christian book.
Glynn's book is great to help beleivers in any faith to seek for evidence in proof that there does exist a masterful creator. Espeically in when trying to proof faith is as tangible as science. However, I caution Born Again Christian and urge them to not to use this book as a devotional book. It wasn't intended that way and like I mentioned early, alot of the author's beliefs tend to fall under more New Age beliefs.
All in all, this was not the worst book that I have read during my dewey project- so I rate this book high on my reading dirary on allconsuming.net. However, as I mentioned earlier, some of the lecture elements bored me to tears. Those long words, and rambling sentences made me wish I had cold one to pass the time.
